Development Disabilities 9 10WAUKEGAN, Ill. – State Sen. Terry Link, D-Waukegan, is partnering with State Rep. Carol Sente, D-Vernon Hills, and State Rep. Rita Mayfield, D-Waukegan, to host a “Developmental Disabilities: Ask the Experts!” discussion focused on issues faced by members of the developmentally disabled community. The event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sullivan Community Center, located at 635 Aspen Drive in Vernon Hills.

Residents are invited to join experts, families and local legislators for a group discussion on Supplemental Security Income (SSI), disability services, PUNS placement, day and residential services, home-based care and other issues facing persons with developmental disabilities and their families.

Link Welcomes StevensonSPRINGFIELD- Today at the Capitol, State Senator Terry Link (D-Waukegan) welcomed students from Stevenson High School that excelled in athletic and academic competitions.

The ICTM Math Team and Science Olympiad were recognized for their scholastic championships while girls’ water polo, boys’ gymnastics, basketball and football were all acknowledged by members of the Senate for their respective championships runs.

“These young people have set an example of success through discipline, talent and perseverance. I couldn’t be prouder to represent these champions and their families,” said Link.

The boys’ basketball team was the first high school team from Lake County to win the state championship.

Link Visits Food BankWaukegan.- State Senator Terry Link visited the Cool Ministries Food Bank in Downtown Waukegan. Diane Thackston, Executive Director of Cool Ministries, guided the senator throughout the facilities and showed the work they do in the North Shore area.

Cool Ministries has been operating for over 32 years and, currently, it feeds 7,000 people each month. “I dearly remember my humble beginnings when I had the fortune to have a simple meal before going to school. As a state senator, I work hard to make sure that our children and their parents will not go to school or to work with an empty stomach,” said Link.
